Rahim Barzegar is leading an NSERC Discovery project on AI-powered modelling of water resources in boreal forests affected by wildfire.
The research investigates changes in groundwater recharge, streamflow, soil moisture, evapotranspiration, and water availability. Field observations, remote sensing, and climate data will inform interpretable and physically consistent artificial-intelligence models.
The project aims to improve understanding of post-fire hydrological recovery and support sustainable water-resource management.
