Rahim Barzegar is contributing to research on how climate change may affect the hydro-mechanical behaviour, stability, and flow-liquefaction potential of mine tailings.
The project integrates laboratory experiments, field information, climate projections, and numerical modelling to examine the effects of precipitation, temperature, freeze–thaw conditions, evaporation, and changing water regimes.
Led by Pooneh Maghoul with Antoine Jacquey, Samuel Yniesta, and Rahim Barzegar as co-principal investigators, the project is supported by NSERC Alliance and Mitacs Accelerate, in partnership with WSP Canada Inc.
