With support from EcotoQ, Rahim Barzegar, Éric Rosa, and Vincent Cloutier are investigating the ecotoxicological risks of extreme wildfires to boreal aquatic ecosystems in Québec.
The project examines how ash, nutrients, metals, and other fire-related contaminants reach surface-water systems. Field sampling and laboratory analyses will help characterize changes in water and sediment quality and identify relevant indicators for post-fire monitoring.
The results will support water-quality monitoring, ecological risk assessment, and ecosystem management.
